Guess what, padawans? It’s National Star Wars day! So what better way to celebrate it than counting down the top 4 Jedi in the Star Wars franchise? It’s been a much talked about debate in the office trying to whittle it down to the top 4 Jedi, but we’ve managed to do it. So read on find out our top 4, and May the 4th be with you!

4th in the list, 25%

4. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Ever the cool, calm and collected Jedi, Obi-Wan is nicknamed “The Negotiator”. Although he is an able fighter, he would much prefer to talk things over than fight it out. Obi-Wan’s a bit like a Jedi peacekeeper if you ask me!

However, that doesn’t mean to say he doesn’t get involved when needed…  He defeated Darth Maul (the first Sith Lord to appear in over a millennia), stops Anakin Skywalker in his path and rescues Luke Skywalker where he teaches him the way of the Force. Not a bad resume if you ask me!

3rd place, 50%

3. Anakin Skywalker

Where to begin with Anakin? Well, he was a promising young Jedi who was also a walking, talking contradiction: he wanted to do the best for everyone, yet still felt a pull to the dark side which he constantly tried to resist.

He was fiercely loyal to all those on his side, but still managed to hand over his old mentor when it turned out he was against the work of the good side. Then when his wife was threatened, he did all he could to protect her which led him down a one-way, self-destructive path of the dark side. His last act (sacrificing himself in place of his son) showed he may have still had a little good still left in him!

Nearly there, 75%

2. Master Yoda

*Yoda Voice* – “Second to top in the list, I am”.

Anyway, enough of the bad Yoda impressions. This green Jedi is a real favourite amongst Star Wars fans and non-fans alike.

You just can’t hate how funny he is!

Now here’s why he’s been voted as 2nd place in our top 4! Yoda is not only a great warrior, he is wise and likes to give advice and help to those around him. Just one example of this is when he helped prepare Luke’s mind before facing Darth Vader. Yoda helps to turn Luke’s anger (and impatience with the training), into a positive way to improve his overall ability and skill when it comes to facing enemies.

Here’s the winner, 100%

1. Luke Skywalker

Here’s the winner, and second Skywalker to make our top 4: Luke!

Finding out your father is Darth Vader (of all people!), have him sever off your hand, and then find out you have a twin sister (Leia) who you may have pursued romantically without knowing you had a sister, could really take its toll on you. Even after all this though, Luke relied on his Jedi training to carry him through. It’s a testament to his character that he didn’t allow himself to be overcome by the dark side.

Decades later, he still manages to show his true Jedi skill. When Leia and her Rebel team were under attack by Leia’s own son (Luke’s nephew), Kylo Ren, Luke helped distract him so that the Rebels were able to escape. Luke sent a projection of himself from a different planet to challenge Kylo, which was successful as Kylo was fooled into thinking Luke was actually in front of him.

Luke had a tough journey on the way to becoming a Jedi master; he lived a life of lies (by no fault of his own), then when he finally found out the truth about his family, he still chose the way of the Force. His different acts of courage and skill, amongst all the other battles he’s had to face in his life, shows why he’s been picked as our number 1 Jedi!

We know there are plenty other Jedi worth mentioning, but we only had room for a top 4! If you think someone else should have been included in the top 4, please let us know here @dwellstudent
