Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and so you only have a few days to get gifts for your significant other. Whilst some of you may believe you shouldn’t dedicate just one day of the year to show your loved one what they mean to you, Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to shower them with a million gifts!

Whether you’re buying on a budget whilst waiting for your next student loan to come in, or you just want a quick and easy solution, why not DIY some gifts? Not only are the below present options affordable to make, but they will also become one of your partner’s most cherished possessions!

1. Make Your Own Scrapbook

No matter how long you and your partner have been together for, you’ll have some amazing memories that you wish to remind them of. The best way to do this is creating a scrapbook; all you need to do is buy a good sized scrapbook, paper (coloured if you want to go the extra mile to make it look snazzy), and then print out the photos you wish to use. You can then slot in the pictures where you want and then write any comments!

Why not also stick in any tickets you’ve kept? If you’ve saved an old concert ticket from where you first met, or the stub from the flight of your first holiday together, be sure to include that in your masterpiece. It’ll be one of those gifts that shows just how sentimental you are!

2. Pick Your Own Bouquet

Not everyone is a fan of flowers but for those who appreciate receiving a beautiful bouquet, whether they’re dropped off as a surprise or given to them in person over a romantic meal, it’s a great gift.

For anyone in a rush, most flower shops have ready-made bouquets ready for you to pick from. Or if you prefer to take the time and select the flowers yourself, this would also be a cute present. You can then decide whether you want to place it in a gift bag or a nicely decorated vase – it’s up to you!

3. Create Your Own CD

We know technology has greatly advanced since the dawn of CD’s! But there’s nothing better than a song playlist that you and your loved one can’t help but jam along to together! Yes, we’ve heard of Spotify but there’s just something so sentimental and personal about putting the time and effort into making a CD. There’s just a few little steps to make as one of your gifts:

  • First of all, make a list of songs that you and your partner love to dance to, sing along to and lip sync to in the car (because we’ve all done that, right?) – there’ll be some songs you haven’t heard in a while but still mean so much to you
  • Make sure you add in a few new tracks that you’ve noticed them bopping along to on the radio when making breakfast
  • If you’re feeling creative and want to give the CD extra wow factor, why not try and decorate the CD case covering? It can be as sickly-cute or as personal as you’d like

4. Bake Your Own Cake

Now I’m not saying you need to be Mary Berry and bake with ingredients you’ve never even heard of, never mind know how to spell. But why not try and make your partner’s favourite cake or dessert as one of your gifts?

Not only will you be able to impress them with your culinary skills (they might even sign you up for GBBO), but it’ll also show them that you’ve learnt and remembered little things about them. Talk about getting in the good books with food?

5. Form Your Own “14 Reasons Why I Love You”

By including this as one of your gifts, it will show how truly romantic you are… but will also do wonders for those of you in the doghouse. Forgotten your anniversary or your loved one’s birthday recently? Well, this gift is sure to make up for it!

As Valentine’s Day is always on the 14th day of February, you can create a list of 14 reasons why you love your partner. These can be as simple or as cheesy as you’d like – remember to add in a few tearjerkers too if you’d like to score more brownie points!
